About Our Chapter The New River Longbeards Chapter is a 501(c3) Non-Profit local arm of the National Wild Turkey Federation serving Onslow & surrounding counties. We are sportsmen, women & children who care deeply about our natural resources & the wild places we love to hunt. If you would like to be part of this great organization and join our Committee or just join us at one of our Meetings, we meet on the Second Tuesday of the month in Richlands. The NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATION establishted in 1973, is a conservation organization CELEBRATING MORE THAN 50 YEARS OF DEDICATION to the conservation of the American Wild Turkey, the preservation of our natural resources and habitat, and the preservation of our hunting heritage. The NWTF's Save the Habitat / Save the Hunt Initiative was a 10-Year Program initiated in 2012 that was dedicated to enhancing and preserving wildlife habitat, with goals of Conserving / Enhancing Habitat, Increasing the Number of Hunters and Increasing Access to Hunting Lands. As part of the NWTF, the New River Longbeards Chapter is doing its share to enhance land conservation and improving hunting opportunities here in Onslow County, and Eastern North Carolina We are also dedicated to the outreach programs to help our local communities. The JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) Program encourages our youngsters to get involved with outdoor activities, conservation and hunting. Check out our Jakes Events for coming activities. The NWTF also provides Scholarships to graduating High School Seniors. The scholarships are awarded at local, state, and national levels. In order to qualify for the National Scholarship the applicant must first win the Local & Regional Scholarships Applications need to be received no later than February 15th of the current year. The WITO (Women in the Outdoors) Program works with women to become more active in outdoors activities, including hunting and shooting, and boating. Check out our Events Page for our coming Women Only Weekend (WOW) The NWTF also has an outreach program dedicated to disabled men and women who would like to get outdoors. The Wheelin' Sportsmen Program aims to help these special people get back outdoors for a number of activities.
